Yvette vs. world: Spring edition

It’s that time again, spring is springing. Jasmine fills the nostrils, blossoms bloom, baby birdies chirp and the sun comes out (in between rain and gale-force winds if you’re in Melbourne). A perfect time to reflect, renew and try some new things on my quest to being the best version of Vettie I can be. Behold, the Yvette 8!

All ready for this? : I recently went to Tony Robbins’ ‘Unleash the Power Within’ (UPW) seminar in Sydney. I laughed, I cried, I danced (a lot), I marveled at Tony’s stature, presence and super-deep voice and I hugged and high-fived hundreds of new friends. Yes, I definitely drank the Kool-Aid and one of the new things I’ve integrated into my life that I learnt there is priming.

Primed and ready: You need to be in beautiful state to make good decisions, connect with others and feel motivated, energised and inspired. If you wake up feeling blah, you will go about your day feeling blah and it has a knock on effect of blah-ness all round. So Tony suggests priming in the morning to put yourself in this beautiful state. See link below for more info but briefly: You do 3 rounds of 30 quick breaths to change your physiology. Next you tune into your heart and think about and feel 3 things you’re grateful for, for about 1 minute each. Then you visualise accomplishing 3 big goals for 1 minute each and imagine the joy of this. Next, it’s time to celebrate. Dance and jump around and high-5 the cat as if these things are done and dusted. It makes you feel awesome and it has a knock on effect of awesomeness for the rest of the day. Try it…join us…join us…

Sweaty Vettie: I’m usually more partial to some gentle yoga and a stroll in the park but recently I have been hitting the cardio and sweating it out and it’s felt amazing (mostly afterwards, not so much during). I’ve been doing Kayla Itsines’ (Radelaide fitness queen) BBG program in the privacy of my own home. I bought and printed the e-books for the 2 x 12 week programs. It’s 3x 28 minute workouts a week for legs, abs and arms using hand weights and a skipping rope (cheap as a chip at Kmart). I’m feeling great for it and still enjoy my yoga and walks in between. I’ll hit the gym for classes and treadmill-ness again soon too (pinky promise) but I’m enjoying the convenience of doing it chez moi. Let’s get into physical!

Just dance: I love to dance and this used to go in hand with boozing and partying. I thought my dance days were behind me now I’m off the booze but oh no, I’ve rediscovered I can still enjoy cutting footloose, cutting a rug, carving some shapes and attempting to moonwalk with the kids. A big part of UPW was dancing and it felt so good to dance to the hits of today and yesterday with thousands of euphoric people high on life, sleep deprivation and coconut water. So, in addition, to the dancing I’m doing in my lounge room, I’m going to try some dance classes that involve dancing with or around (gulp) other people. I’ll try Zumba at the gym, the local swing dance class, getting hippy with it at 5 Rhythms and unleashing my inner J-Lo at Salsa lessons. Watch this space as I report from the frontlines of shaking my booty.

What’s springing for you in spring dear reader?

Love and light and sweaty high-5’s xxx Yvette

  1. I love this blog, especially hearing about Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within. It sounds like you learnt a lot from this seminar. Would love to have seen you all dancing and high-fiving. You certainly have a good routine going with priming in the morning, dancing and cardio at home plus checking out some dance classes to get involved with. Look forward to hearing more and reading your next blogs.

    1. Thanks so much for reading! I’ve really been enjoying this new routine and have a renewed love of dance. Tony says ‘emotion is motion’ so by moving your body-you change your state. An awesome weekend! X 💃❤️
