The Winter of our Content

“Now is the winter of our discontent, Made glorious summer by this sun of York; And all the clouds that lour’d upon our house, In the deep bosom of the ocean buried”. By William Shakespeare from Richard III, spoken by Gloucester.

With the temperature in Melbourne in free fall and the rain following suit, it’s easy to feel the seasonal discontent Gloucester was on about. Instead, I’m consciously cultivating content. But how?!

Hygge is about the small things in life. Like warm socks. A dim-lit room. A hot cup of tea in your favorite mug.” Danishmom.com

I’m ramping up the hyggelig atmosphere at hjem by cranking up the heating, filling up the hot water bottle, lighting up the candles and having a sleeping cat nearby at all times. I used be a bit stingy with the heater temp and the good candles but now I’m leaning in and loving it!

“Nothing exists without its opposite”. Chris Crutcher.

To appreciate the Hygge-life, contrast is key. A bracing brisk walk and trying to hit my steps goal -rain, hail or shine-makes the cacoon/sizzling shower that awaits at home all the more magical. Likewise, balancing the hours spent watching “Celebrity Apprentice” (a snake and a fake Lord Sugs) with reading time. Current brilliant read is “Sorrow and Bliss” by Meg Mason.

“It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan”. Eleanor Roosevelt.

Although over the last few years, I discovered that my natural habitat is ‘lockdown’, having a few plans to look forward to is enjoyable. Going to the footy (cheer, cheer, the red and the white), chowing down on delicious food (mmm noodlesoup), stocking up at crystals at the Mind-Body-Spirit Festival (blessed) and seeing flicks on the big screen (you can be my wingman any time) have been fun times with friends and a reasonable bedtime. More goodness to come.

“Go to meet destiny halfway and destiny will come to your assistance”.  Svetlana Alliluyeva.

We are almost halfway through Twenty-Twooooooo oo! It’s a great opportunity to check back in with your goals and habits and refresh and reset them. I am committing to daily Pilates/Yoga, 10K steps, Meditation and more reading. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling good about the rest of Twenty- Twooooooo oo.

Love and light and contentment xoxo Yvette
