Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you? Foo Fighters, ‘Best Of You’.

I’ve got another confession to make, I’m your fool (me to streaming services). Our homes had to pull triple duty for much of this year, being places to live, work and be entertained. Some even did quadruple work, transforming into schools for those doing remote learning (don’t mention the war). I spent a lot of time reading and watching on my couch and another chunk of time walking and listening. Here are some of the best things I binged on in 2021.

Watched it: Grateful to have an abundance of streaming services this year as well as an abundance of time to watch them. “Mare of Easttown” (hail Kate Winslet’s accent), “I May Destroy You” (full on and amaze), “You. Season 3” (serial killing in the suburbs), “Squid Game” (nightmarish red light-green light games) and “Maid” (gritty good) were among my faves this year. Something about lockdown led itself to gloomy viewing. I watched the last 2 series during a 7-day isolation period and felt very odd indeed when I went back out into the world!

Read it: I read some days like it was my full-time job. Well, it’s kinda my job or at least a big part of it (library life). My sacred Kobo means I can borrow, download and read books without ever leaving the afore-mentioned couch. I delighted in reading Aussie authors Sally Hepworth (The Good Sister) and Caroline Overington (The Cuckoo’s Cry) who do dark takes on suburban life as well Jane Harper (The Dry) with her woven crime stories and Liane Moriarty (Apples Never Fall) with tasty twists. Katherine Heiny (Standard Deviation) has many LOLs and Douglas Stuart (Shuggie Bain) paints a bleak moving portrait of family. Non-fiction faves were Beginners by Tom Vanderbilt and The Happiest Man on Earth by Edie Jaku.

Listened to it: I like to drive with music and walk with podcasts. I’m wild like that. For music, 2 words, Taylor Freaking Swift. Won’t surprise many to hear that she topped my Spotify Unwrapped list. All too Well (10 Minute version) (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault). Mind blown. Just between us, did the love affair maim you too? Plus, all the re-recorded classic songs and bangers/ballads from the vault. Also acknowledging the feminine urge to listen to Maisie Peters, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish.

Podcast wise– ‘Comments by Celebs’ for my pop culture fix, ‘She’s on The Money” for financials and ‘The Law of Attraction Changed my life’ for woo-woo meets LOL. These Queens always understand the assignment.
I’ve got another confession my friend, I’m no fool. What are your Best Binge things of the year? Looking forward to more watching, reading and listening in the new year. Perhaps not as much time devoted to the couch in 2022 but we will see…
Love and light and wishing you the best, the best, the best, the best xoxo Yvette

God bless ya grrl, you’ve been busy!!
Had a bit of a binge on the old SBS on Demand in the last couple of weeks- Addicted Australia, the Up series (I’ve nearly finished) and a couple of true crime ones (Catching a Killer on ABC I think) and one set up in Scotland (he’s been mrrdrerrd!) So a bit bleak, to compliment the times surely…
Merry Christmas. Carols at the Myer Music Bowel now please Mother!

Ohh yes! I too enjoyed ‘Up’ and I do love 💕 a bleak murder on the Moors too (cosy or gritty as the case may be Jones). Have a wonderfully Holly Jolly Chrissy and say hi 👋 to Delta G at the Carols for me. Perhaps next year might involve more leaving of ones house 🏠. Much love 💕 and thanks 🙏 for reading dear David xoxo 😘 Yvette

Thanks my dear! Yes, the Up series starts with 7up, then you follow the participants every seven years. Very gripping! And moving.
