Silver Linings Playbook

If you stay positive, you have a shot at a silver lining. Pat, Silver Linings Playbook

In a year of lockdowns and lounge rooms, can you find the silver linings as we move into 2022? For me, I’ve realised there’s joy in appreciating ALL the SMALL things and Keeping It Simple Sexy (no negative self-talk please).

ALL the SMALL things: Who knew that a park walk and a takeaway coffee with a pal could spark as much social excitement as a destination wedding? We reframed the everyday into exotic and that ain’t bad. After all, research shows that gratitude is the single most powerful method of increasing happiness. The trick will be continuing to give thanks and worshipping the mighty Merri Creek track and hailing the awesome Almond Latte as more options become available.

Money honey: $4.50 coffees aside, 2021 was a year of forced frugality. Money was saved on hair and beauty (dark roots acceptable), clothing (Zoom mullet-nice top, tracksuit bottom acceptable), gyms (YouTube workouts welcome) and events (days in with a library book and nights in with Netflix enjoyed). Although I’ve enjoyed getting back to the blonde foils and the brunches, I now know I can live with less in loungewear and save some extra cash-ish.

1% better: If you get one percent better each day for one year, you’ll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done. James Clear

Routines and productivity fuel a sense of security and achievement. So the lockdown days, weeks and months didn’t just pass in a blur of PJ’s and supermarket sweeps, I found it helpful to build a routine. This was usually just going to bed and getting up at the same time, scheduling a walk or a workout, trying a takeaway Almond Latte from a different café in the hood daily, attempting to limit streaming and food binges and the occasional work commitment. I will aim to do 1% more steps and spend 1% less time on my phone as we merge into the new year.

Word power: Some of the affirmations I’ve been using this year are;

*Happy, healthy, abundant, fun and free. Everything works out for me!

*I am divinely guided, blessed and protected.

*I am a happy and positive person and only happy and positive things happen to me.

*I live in luxury and I give with generosity.

I write these down and say them to myself at traffic lights and they help me to feel good.

Can you find the silver linings of 2021 as it comes to end?

Happy Festivus friends! Xxx Yvette

  1. Deep down I think I always new a park-walk , and a take-away coffee were truly blessed things. Certainly 2021 has confirmed that! Only 13 more sleeps to #Festivus
