Power up

I’ve been considering changing to a more corporate-ish career of late. The 9-5-ness, stability of office temperature, the close proximity to coffee, the decent bunse $ and the opportunity to wear something nice all appeal after standing outdoors wrangling ankle-biters whilst wearing Kmart clothes caked in play-dough and paint. Of course, I love supporting children and families, it’s super rewarding and they’re extremely cute. But I’m now considering a step sideways and wondering how I can do what I love from the comfort of the ivory tower rather than from the mud on the frontline.

This takes a mind-set shift to adjust from seeing myself as Teacher Yvette to Business Yvette. I’ve been trying the following to support the shift;

  • Dress for the job you want. I bought a blazer (from Kmart but baby steps) and wear it in front of the mirror. Hi Boss!
  • When I want to take it up a notch, I also put on my crown (garland headband) and do a power pose like the ‘wonder woman’ (standing in a high-power pose like this for 2 minutes can help us feel confident) *.
  • I add my goal to ‘do a job which is well-paid, creative and fun, working with a supportive community’ to my daily journaling and visualisations.
  • I search and apply for jobs, pushing through the self-doubt of not ‘being qualified enough’. After all, I’ve got nothing to lose and at the very least, I’ve realised there’s an abundance of jobs and my application skills are hopefully improving.

How do you power up dear reader? I look forward to keeping you posted as I blast off and morph into Boss lady Yvette.

“I hope you find true meaning, contentment, and passion in your life. I hope you navigate the difficult times and come out with greater strength and resolve. I hope you find whatever balance you seek with your eyes wide open. And I hope that you – yes, you – have the ambition to lean in to your career and run the world. Because the world needs you to change it.”
