Imperfect

I’ve been back into my long walks recently and 11 hours of listening to Wayne Dyer’s Ultimate Library on Audible has kept me company for much of it (along with T. Swizzle’s “Lover” obvs.). This statement struck me and has been on replay in my mind ever since…

“My time, my wine, my spirit, my trust. Tryna find a part of me you didn’t take up.
Gave you too much, but it wasn’t enough. But I’ll be alright, it’s just a thousand cuts
.” Taylor Swift

Well, yes THAT TOO but also THIS…

“It’s better to live your dreams imperfectly rather than be living someone else’s dream perfectly”. Wayne Dyer

Damn it Dyer! Back at it with the life changing nuggets of wisdom. Wayne gave the example from his own life when he was working as a Professor at a University. He was experienced, well paid and good at his job but his dream was to be a full-time author and speaker. Wayne realised he was living someone’s else’s dream perfectly rather than living his own imperfectly.

It was scary to leave financial and job security to leap into the unknown but in the car on the way home after resigning from his professorship, Wayne felt an almost surreal bliss and joy. Everything looked different and he felt free. He was now living his dream imperfectly. Wayne went on to make more money in the first year of his new career than he had ever previously in his job but the important thing was that he took the chance on it and wasn’t “going to die with the music inside him” (another gem he delivers).

A similar sentiment was echoed by Marieke Hardy talking to Wil Anderson on the Wilosophy Podcast. When she was given the job of Artistic Director of Melbourne Writers Festival, she realised she would never please everyone and the only way to approach it was to create what she loved personally and then, regardless of financial or critical success, she couldn’t lose. These wise words have made me think about important it is to live your dreams, however imperfectly, and how you’ll never please everyone, you can only please yourself.  How can you create a life you love?

 So, watch this space as I write and yogi imperfectly. And now for some more inspirational quotes from the masters;

“If you have passion, there is no need for excuses because your enthusiasm will trump any negative reasoning you might come up with. Enthusiasm makes excuses a nonissue.” Wayne Dyer

“And I screamed for whatever it’s worth, I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard? He looks up, grinning like a devil.” Taylor Swift

“That you keep trying and making art and interacting with others is all that matters. You’re showing up.” Marieke Hardy

Love and light and live your dreams xxx Yvette
