This funky song, ‘Okay, but then what?’, by Aussie hip hopper Illy is quite an ear worm and I’m finding it helpful to use to challenge my ego so my soul voice can be heard more easily. The ego can be a bit of a negative ninny and tries to preserve you from harm by alerting you to fear and activating hard-shell mode. This can be helpful in the short term if there is clear and present danger but often it gets stuck in a fear loop when there is change and change and growth are a necessary and healthy part of life.

 The ego is the worn-out script that plays out in our head to convince us of our unworthiness. Let your ego have a voice or else it continues to kick up but recognise it is not your soul speaking.

 The voice of the ego is not you, you are the one simply listening to it. Speed it up and slow it down until it is unrecognisable and sounds like…yada yada, blah blah blah. Continue to ask it, ‘okay, but then what?’, and see what ridiculousness it comes up with. Cause all that talk is cheap.

Can we turn the sound down? Boom-chicka-wow-wow.

Detach from the voice of the ego and it will become quieter. Meditation, exercise and time in nature can all help to quieten it down so you can hear/ feel/sense your soul speaking.

So, acknowledge your ego and let it have a say but then detach from it and seek silence so you can figure out what should get brushed so you can turn the volume up on your soul and focus on the real world problems and your real good friends.
