Regardless

Regardless of what anyone tells you, you can want what you want. Sometimes we confide in a friend our wildest dreams only to hear all the reasons why it’s not possible. Moving to Paris?! That’s too expensive, unsafe, full of baked goods and French people etc. At these times we are hearing their fears, however well meaning, which can be catching. Soon you start thinking about Paris being too expensive, unsafe, full of baked goods and French people etc.

The Course in Miracles says, “Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait and wait without anxiety”. I love this but it can be hard to stay certain in uncertain times especially with negative Nancies or Realistic Roys around. How to do?

The vision: start dreaming about what you want. Think of images until they become vivid and clear, cut out pictures to pin around, see them and feel them. Try a bit of morning visioning a la Tony Robbins. “I do three minutes of my ‘Three to Thrive’ ― what are three outcomes or results I’m really committed to? I see them as done and fulfilled … When I feel it’s fulfilled and done, I give thanks for it.”

Sharing is caring?: Although this is usually one of my favourite sayings (especially as I work with 4 year olds), in some cases, it’s best not to share your dreams with others or perhaps only a select few. They might respond from a place of fear or with their own motives in mind. ‘But if you go to Paris, who am I going to watch Midsommer Murders with?’ Granted it’s a legitimate concern but keep your dreams to yourself especially in their early stages lest they be squashed.

Test drive it: In order to strengthen the vision and feelings, test drive your dreams. Bring a little Paris into your life. Visit a French restaurant, wear striped tops, take up chain smoking, watch French films, take French classes until you’re sleeping and breathing croissants and Gerard Depardieu (sacre bleu). Anything that makes you feel the excitement, freedom and Frenchness you crave.

Plan for it: Look into dates and dollars (I mean Euros), act ‘as if’ going is a given. Dream your little dream into existence regardless of what others may say or think. Once you’ve strengthened your vision and feelings and plan, you may share with certainty. This will be an inspiration to others to follow their dreams or at least book a sojourn to come and see you and Gerard at la tour Eiffel. What are you dreaming of?

  1. I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to talking myself down from future plans. I make magical plans for myself in my head one minute, and the next my brain starts telling myself that it’s never going to pan out. I’ve always been like that; full of self-doubt. I think it’s because, deep down, I’m just not a risk-taker. I tend to always play it safe. How boring.

    1. I totally relate Veebs! I’m trying to get better at listening to my heart ❣ rather than my head and not letting others thoughts 💭 influence me too much. It’s an ongoing learning though and I’ve no tickets booked yet! I’m comfortable with the croissant 🥐 consumption part though! Xxx Yvette

  2. Secret dreams, positive dreams, public dreams, nightmares, lucid dreams, dreams about dreams, dream diaries, a midsummer nights dreams, love potions and lotions.

So many things that I dreamed off when I was younger have come true……maybe not as many lately ……..I think being really clear of what you want and don’t want helps your dreams to come true. And what you need and don’t need. Maybe I need to focus on that again????

And guess what???? Tonight I am going to a warehouse party for my friends 40th, with the theme of IN YOUR DREAMS….I’m going to go as a goth. Not because I’ve been dreaming of being one (else I would dress that way now) …..but because I’ve been listening to The Cure lately. So black wigs and eye liner here we come because the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams*
